Ultra Sound #2 for Baby #2
We had our follow up apt for baby Doll #2 today. While the outcome was better than last time there are still areas of concern. They were able to visualize the spine and rouge foot along with the other missing internal organs with the exception of the left kidney. The baby is what is called frank breach, which means that his (no we don’t know if it is a boy…just be grammatically correct) feet are up by his head.
Back to the kidney. The left kidney was still not visualized and is the area that the ultrasound tech spent the majority of her time today. The right kidney has 5 mm of pelviectasis. Now before you rush to google (which I have already done) let me explain. Basically it is dilatation of the renal pelvis, the kidney part that is in direct connection with the ureter. In most cases (that I have found online…again no scientific data here) it tends to decrease in size on its own and cause no ill effects.
With all of this in mind, the amniotic fluid level is normal which means that if just one kidney exists, it is functioning normally. For those of you who don’t know how amniotic fluid is made, see here. So correct levels of amniotic fluid is a good sign.
We have been referred on to a MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine) Doctor. The closest is in Fargo, and the soonest they could get us in in Sept 9th. So please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we play the wait game for another 2 weeks.
In other baby news. I have started to have mild contractions (WOOHOO). They are what I remember the contractions before William being like so the doctor did a little extra checking today to make sure we were ok. So far, so good.
Thanks for all the prayers and continued support!
