Reflection
A new decade is bearing down on us and I would like to take a moment to reflect over the past 5 years.
In many ways, not a lot has happened. I am still working for Bobcat, living in Bismarck, playing games, and subscribing to Amazon prime. I am a creature of habit after all. What I have found is I relish the opportunities to have deeper experiences.
In regards to my job, I enjoy getting a broader perspective of issues. I like learning about the different facets of a project rather than quickly diving in and “solving” a problem.
It is easy to say there is nothing to do in Bismarck. I like exploring oft overlooked areas in Bismarck just by actually looking around when I am going some where. Many activities are hard to find unless you choose to become active in your community!
Gaming has always been a large part of my life. I started playing card and board games with my family at a young age. Growing up on the farm, it was often the best entertainment option. Even then, I liked to play video games but as I grew up I sought them out more than traditional games. In college, I could often be found making friends through the internet based around the games I played. So much so many of these friends attended my wedding and became “real” friends.
These days, I still love to game, but I tend to do it as a way to connect with people. It is an easy excuse to hang out by inviting people over to play a game. We can catch up, have some fun, and laugh about our mistakes within the framework of a game. While I might like to talk strategy and definitely enjoying winning, the real reason I game is to be preset with others and enjoy their company.
In short, I have come to the point of enjoying the journey and being present. There is so much life if you care to look for it. These days, I care to look for it.
